olympiacos v. The Arsenal

5 December 2011 | No Comments »

The kids are alright

Tomorrow, The Arsenal take on olympiacos. We have already qualified with the top spot in the group and are likely to field a squad of the reserve and youth players. It is definitely a nice position to be in and should still be an interesting match to watch with the younger players getting a crack at the first team.

I suspect it will probably be a similar squad to the league cup side. Park and/or Chamakh up front, likely Coquelin and Frimpong in the middle with maybe Benayoun or Ozyakup as the main option going forward. The back line will include any of Djourou, Squillaci, Miquel, Santos and Yenarris, with Vermaelen on the bench and Fabianski the likely keeper.

It should be a competitive match regardless of our squad due to the fact that our players will be trying to show their worth to the manager and olympiacos have more than a good chance of claiming the second spot in the group over marseilles and dortmund and will be going for the win as well.

As always, come on down to Beulahland at 11:45 tomorrow and watch the boys in the final group stage match tomorrow.

Come On You Gunners!

wiggity wiggity wiggity wigan v. The Arsenal

"We've had little bit the bad time with wigan"

Tomorrow see’s the team play wigan in as fixture that has been a tad rough for the last couple of seasons. Leads have been given up, mistakes have been made, points have been dropped. I don’t think the team should have that tough of a time, but hopefully the manager and the team have learned not to underestimate Roberto Martinez’s squad.

Wigan are on a two match undefeated run but find themselves second from bottom and in their annual relegation scrap. Martinez is a handy coach and plays some nice football but can’t ever seem to find consistent form for his team.

In terms of Arsenal team news, no new injuries between the cup match and tomorrow’s fixture. Diaby looks like he will be out for at least 10 days with a muscle strain, which isn’t surprising considering how long he has been out but is still disappointing. Rosicky is still out but might figure in the olympiacos match. The other long termers (Jack, Bac, Gibbs, etc) are about the same and supposedly Ryo will be out until the end of December now (not sure I even remember him getting injured to be honest).

After the way some of the young kids played in the cup match against city, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of them get a shout against wigan as well. They were unlucky to not come away with a result against city and stood up to a team who have a striker (Aguero) that cost as much as our entire starting 11. I could definitely see The Ox get ahead of Arshavin at this point, with his good form and the Russian’s lack of anything approaching it. Coquelin and Frimpong held the midfield well and you could argue for them to have a go of it at the weekend too.

As usual, come on down to Beulah at 7:00 am sharp tomorrow and hopefully the boys can get back to winning ways.

The Arsenal v. borussia dortmund

22 November 2011 | No Comments »

It’s the return of the champion’s league tomorrow. Arsenal can clinch a knock out stage place when they face zee Germans in what could be an interesting encounter. dortmund have been resurgent in the German league, including a win over bayern munich recently and Arsenal are also on a very decent win streak so it could equate to a good match of football.

In terms of team news, we may see an Abou Diaby sighting. Spotting the Abou is very rare indeed but is known to happen on occasion in the wilds of north london, where he is known to feed on bandages, splints and the odd plaster cast. He will likely be on the bench in place of Rosicky who has picked up a knock in training. Other than that, those who where out are still out and those who’ve been in are still in…….not too bad.

Bring yourself on down to Beulahland tomorrow at 11:45 am to catch the match with your fellow Gooners as we will hopefully be cheering on an Arsenal win and knock out qualification. See you there.

norwich city v. The Arsenal

"Never leave me....."

Tomorrow real football get’s back to action. Arsenal take on norwich city in the league and hope to continue the great run they’d been on prior to the interlull (copyright Arseblog).

Team news:

"who are you again?"

As you may have guessed, Diaby is back!!! In full training that is. Due to the length of this recent period of injury it will likely be several weeks until he is fit enough for first team selection. He’s had a bad go of it hasn’t he? Supposedly most of his injury trouble go back to him getting his ankle broken by that sunderland cunt. He hasn’t really been able to get a good run together in a few years, so here’s to hoping that this will be the start of one.

In other news, we have no fullbacks…….Jenkinson has a small stress fracture in his back (they supposedly caught it early, so it shouldn’t be major but he’ll be out for a little while) and Gibbs has undergone hernia surgery which should put him out for four to five weeks. This leaves Santos as the lone gun at left back, with the likely options of Djourou or Koscielny at right back. It will most likely be the former due to the fact that he has had a few run outs in that position.

I don’t know all that much about norwich, except for the fact that they are having a decent run for a promoted team but also have a canary on their badge, which can never be a good thing.

Come on down to Beulah, bright and early tomorrow. The match is on delay (we keep getting stuck with the early kick off for some reason) at 7:00 am sharp. Kick off the return of real football with breakfast and the mighty Arsenal.

Come On You Gunners!
